Simple jobs which you can undertake on the Ford Anglia |
|
1.
Lubricate distributor and check contact breaker gap every 5,000 miles.
Having removed the distributor cap, lift off the rotor arm. Put a few
drops of engine oil on the cam spindle, the contact breaker pivot post
and on the bob-weights via the aperture in the contact breaker plate.
A thin film of petroleum jelly should be put on the cam. Anglias are
sensitive to correct electrical adjustment and if starting becomes difficult
the contact breaker gap (0.014-0.016 in.) and the sparking plug gaps
(0.023 up to 0.028 in.) should be checked first.

2.
Plug adjustment should be done at 5,000 miles. To close the gap bend
the earth electrode either with a special small tool or a pair of sharp
nosed pliers-don't tap it, as this could damage the central electrode.
Clean insulators are less liable to shorting than ditry ones.
